I picked up another tip about maggots recently, and am seeking an expansion of this knowledge, especially in view of the idea of feeding the maggots to fish. After a big picnic this summer, the refuse got tossed into a metal 55 gallon drum. (As usual, it is very difficult to get a large group of people to do what you want them to with their waste) Anyway, a day or so later, my Grandad and I were out there and he noted with disgust that there were maggots in the can and mentioned he would have to burn the whole mess, which he proceeded to do without delay. Ignorant creature that I am, I asked about the use of the chickens to clean up the maggot problem. "No! Fly maggots will kill your chickens," he says. "They get all wobbly and can't hold their heads up, then they fall over and eventually die." He didn't know the causative agent, but mentioned that these symptoms were well known and were referred to as "limberneck." Can anyone provide more details? Loren M.
