Directions on Using WWW Game Bytes

Dave Stanworth, WWW maintainer, Game Bytes magazine
The WWW version of Game Bytes has been designed to be as simple as possible to use. It follows the general layout of its offline cousin, but at the same time tries to take advantage of the WWW environment.

All of the screen shots are shown as thumbnails but can be downloaded by clicking on them. These pictures are in 256 colours so some systems may experience some degradation as the WWW browser dithers them down to 16 colours. Also, some DOS browsers have a problem with setting the initial palette, causing pictures to seem distorted. The best way to fix this is to view one of the maximised pictures, which will cause the browser to optimise it's palette again. Doing this once should fix the problem for that session. Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do about this as it is a browser problem.

When running under Windows the best browser is a utility called WinGIF. Unlike some browsers, WinGIF only displays the picture, and not a full working environment like PaintShop. This file can be downloaded by selecting this link (wingif).

All editions of GB will be cross-referenced where possible, and you will also be able to view reviews directly from the main index. Any FTP sites mentioned within GB will also have direct links to the sites, and hopefully we will be able to include demo versions of some of the games.

Lastly, there is a questionnaire on the front page and, providing you have a forms compliant browser, we would be grateful if you could take the time to complete it. There are a number of things we hope to add in the near future, but for now we would like to get the current layout polished up. If you have any comments reguarding this site the questionnaire is the place to express them.
