I couldn't let this pass. As far as I know, Luke is *not* regarded by most
scholars as a "first class historian", at least not in any modern sense.
See, for example, the voluminous work on the book of Acts that examines the
relation between Luke's portrayal of Paul and the information we find in the
letters of Paul. Current trends in interpretation regard Luke as primarily
a theologian rather than primarily an historian.
Having said that, I must admit that Luke can write interesting Greek...
