Carl,
        Yes,your translation is what we've needed. Add "John the Dunkard"
to the table of options. (I grew up hearing "Dunkard" and learned as an
adult that "Dunker" is an alternate form of the same term.)

The we have Jesus, in his famous comparison of the reception he and John
received from his generation, saying:

John the Dunkard and Jesus the Drunkard came unto you, and you said . . . .

That really makes the p[oint.
