Thank you for all of your help.
I forward this as requested.

----------
Maranatha (and maranatha!),

M stands for codex Coislinianus. Rahlf's supplies the text of Gen 1-46 from A
(since B doesn't have that portion), and often uses other readings where he
thinks A is defective.
The right square bracket, "]", separates the reading of Rahlf's text (UIOI)
from the variant reading AGGELOI.
A with superscript r means that the reading AGGELOI is found in Alexandrinus
by the hand of a rescriptor (someone who obliterated the original text and
replaced it with the rescripted reading). I.e., the editor(s) doesn't know
what the original reading of A was.
The two verical lines, "||", separate the note on verse 2 from that on verse
9. (So 9 GENEA] GENESEI A+ is a comment on vs. 9 saying that the reading of
the text in vs. 9 is GENEA, but that Alexandrinus and one minuscule read
GENESEI.)

Check the introduction for the explanation of symbols, though it isn't
complete. The flier that comes with Rahlf's ("Explanatio signorum") is pretty
complete, but is in Latin, so if you can't read Latin (or don't know someone
who can), you're often out of luck.

Hope that helps.

Alan

Subject: Footnote of LXX Genesis 6:2
To: Biblical Greek

Hello,

I am trying to understand the footnote for Genesis 6:2
in Ralph's edition. It is like this:

6 2 uioi M] aggeloi Ar || 9 genea] genesei A+

What I don't understand is:
(1) If "M" is referring to codex M?
(2) What does "]" mean?
(3) What does "||" mean?
(4) I think I understand A is Codex
    Alexandrinus, but does that "r"
    superscript means for that particular
    word "uioi", it has been rescripted
    to "aggeloi" in A?

Thanks.

Maranatha
