Dear Listmembers,

Would anyone happen to know of any publications which treat the existence

(or the lack thereof) of ERANOI and THIASOI in Palestine and the
Ptolemaic

kingdom? As far as I know, they do not come up in the Canonical or

Deuterocanonical literature, but I am interested in comparing their
cultural

force in Palestine with that in areas closer to the imperial capital
(e.g.,

Rhodes) and areas in the eastern Seleucid empire (like Ai Khanoum). Of

particular interest to me is how instrumental they were in the
dissemination

of Greek culture among the Jews -- either in or out of Palestine proper.

Thanks for any and all help.

Cheers,
