The correct reading in of 1 Cor. 9:5 from the N-A27 is MH OUK ECOMEN
EXOUSIAN ADELFHN *GUNAIKA* PERIAGEIN ... Some mss and church fathers
substitute GUNAIKAS for ADELFHN GUNAIKA.
Some grammars treat this as a "double accusative." Others deal with it by
understanding some form of the verb "to be." If it is dealt with as a
double accusative, it would be the use of two nouns in the accusative case
as objects of the same verb, PERIAGEIN. This would be an example of the
primary (ADELFHN) and secondary (GUNAIKA) objects. In English we usually
deal with these as object and object complement. In such cases most
translators introduce something between them like "as" or "to be." In this
instance I would translate "Do we not have the right to take along a sister
as a wife, . . .?" Another instance of this category is Acts 13:5 EICON
IWANNHN hUPHRETHN. "They had John as a helper." This is a rather common
phenom in the GNT.
