There is much truth to what you have to say, but there are genuine
grammatical issues that still need to be explored. And I think they can be
explored if the right people take it upon themselves to get at the heart of
the matter and then, ultimately, let others decide whether the evidence
points in one direction or the other, or in no one particular direction at
all.
But, presuppositions aside, I think many on this forum can tell when a person
is seriously presenting or responding to grammatical questions or examples.
So, as long as the thread can keep within the grammatical scope of the List,
I think there is good that can be achieved. If nothing else, I think persons
involved can and will have a better appreciation for the grammatical bases
motivating certain persons' conclusions.
