I would vote for Dative of Object of a Preposition, since EN pretty much
requires an object in the Dative (with a few exceptions). So figuring out
where in the semantic range of EN this example falls might be a more useful
endeavor than trying to pin down a type of Dative. Greater minds than mine
can comment on whether that approach is more valid.

I don't think that "reference" will fit here. For that to be the case the
following translation should make sense, "in reference to faith add virtue."
I would say that you should translate this as "add virtue to your faith."
Some would even say that it is more association (instrumental), "along with
your faith add virtue."
