REMINDER
Corpus Paulinum ONLINE SEMINAR WITH RICHARD A. HORSLEY
Begins a Week from Today -- on Sunday, April 21st -- with responses
from Professor Horsley to begin Monday, April 22

***********

The moderators of the Corpus Paulinum Discussion List (http://www.ibiblio.org/corpus-paul/)
are pleased to announce that Richard A. Horsley,

Distinguished Professor of Liberal Arts and the Study of Religion,
Department of Classics and Religion, at the University of Massachusetts
(Boston), editor of Paul and Empire (1997) and Paul
and Politics (2000), and author of Jesus and the Spiral
of Violence (1992), Sociology and the Jesus Movement
(1989), Archeology, History, and Society in Galilee (1996),
and many other works,

has agreed to conduct a two week online Seminar with Corpus Paulinum members
and other interested parties on the ideas and arguments set out in chapters
5-9 of Richard A. Horsley and Neil Asher Silberman, The Message and
the Kingdom. (Minneapolis: Fortress Press, 2002) and the Introduction
and the introductory essays to each of the four chapters in Paul
and Empire.

The Seminar, to be carried out under the auspices of Corpus Paulinum
and its managers, will begin on Monday, April 22nd, and will run
until Friday, May 3rd, 2002, with initial submissions for Professor Horsley
accepted on Sunday, April 21st.

So as to be managed effectively, the Seminar will be conducted on a
subscription only basis (for instructions on subscribing, see below), and
all posts submitted by Seminar members will be and be subject to
selection by the seminar's moderators. Posts selected as best suited
to further the discussion will be answered by Professor Horsley on a daily
basis.

The messages from Seminar List members and the replies of Professor
Horsley will be posted regularly to the Seminar’s Home page (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HorsleySeminar/
) and will be publicly accessible at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HorsleySeminar/messages

However, only Seminar subscribers will have the privilege of posting
messages.

The focus of the Seminar is the thesis set out by Professor Horsley
in The Message and the Kingdom and Paul and Empire
that Paul’s message of the cross and his missionary activity stands counter
to, and as a polemic against, Roman imperial power and its gospel of the
Pax Romana.

Accordingly, a major prerequisite for anyone wishing to participate
in the Seminar is one's familiarity with these works.
