Why do we like this site?

Owairoa's site is a fun, friendly site designed with the fact in mind that it's supposed to show an on-line face of a primary school, home to students between the ages of five and eleven years. Should a primary school's site be cold and efficient like a super-corporations? We don't think so, and neither does Owairoa. The effect is that, before you really get into any of the vast amounts of information it offers, you're immediately hit with the impression that this is probably a fun place, where children enjoy their educational experience.

Beyond this friendly start to the site, Owairoa offers loads of information about their school. There are links to descriptions of the grounds, information on enrollment and costs, pages featuring some of the school's children, and information on the faculty and staff. There are pages for school and sports events, and school news for 1997.

One of the aspects of a school site which we consider most important, however, is a focus on the students. At Owairoa, this isn't hard to find. In addition to the page with snapshots of a few students, they populate the pages everywhere you look, and there's a page featuring students' artwork, as well. It's plain to us that they were foremost in the minds of the site's creators, as well as its maintainer.

Who are the people behind this site?

Owairoa's web site was created in April of 1996, meaning they've been on the 'net now for nearly two years. At present, they're maintained by Ned Church, a senior teacher on the school's staff.
