This month's Star School hails from New Orleans, Louisiana. Ben Franklin High School is a "city-wide, public, coeducational, college preparatory day school open to students of all races and creeds of superior intellectual potential." BFHS has approximately 900 students in 9th through 12th grades.

Benjamin Franklin premiered its website in March of 1995 as a pilot site for the Greater New Orleans Freenet. BFHS was the first high school in its area to have a homepage. The original web design team consisted of students, faculty, administration, alumni, and parents led by Paul Werner and Dean Charbonnet.

Why do we like this site?

The BFHS web site contains information far above and beyond the basics. The web folks there cover the mandatory information -- enrollment, academic reputation and information about student groups -- but also provide sections for research links, an e-mail address book and a space for students searching for colleges. The BFHS parents' newsletter, the Post, is online with both current issues and archives.

BFHS Alumni also get in on the web action at this site. There is an alumni section as well as links to reunion information for the Class of '87.

What is most impressive about this site is the depth of information, especially about academics. Check out the section titled "Subject Area Links" for an incredibly comprehensive representation of BFHS's academic departments.

Who are the people behind this site?

The site is currently maintained by the following team:
