The 28th pick belongs to the Orlanda Magic who are represented by: Tom@Orlando. This pick is via the New York Knicks in the Mark Jackson, Stanley Robers and Charles Smith three way trade with the Los Angles Clippers. With that pick the Magic select: Sam Cassel, SG, 6-3, Florida State ============================================================================ 1993 Usenet Draft Team Report Team: Orlando Magic Team Needs Orlando's needs were discussed in my report for the #1 pick, so I won't repeat myself here. With the first pick, the Magic addressed their need for a quality PF. This pick could be used to find an understudy PG to back-up and then take over for Scott Skiles. The Magic might also look to address any weaknesses they feel might be created in creating enough salary cap room to sign Webber. Although Orlando would like to address these needs, I believe that they will have one and only one goal in determining their selection with this pick - to draft the player that has the best shot of still being in the NBA three seasons from now. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Our selection: Sam Cassell When I look at Sam Cassell I see the player Orlando hoped they were getting when they traded for Steve Kerr. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Other possible selections: At this position its too hard to predict. There could be any number of "desirable" players still left. PG's/players_who_might_learn_to_be_PG's that might be available and desirable include Nick Van Exel, Lindsey Hunter, and Sam Cassell. Other players that the Magic have mentioned in pre-draft interviews as under condsideration should they still be available - Thomas Hill, Rex Walters, George Lynch, Corie Blount, Anthony Reed, Rich Manning, and Conrad McRae, and Evric Gray. In addition, the Magic could be looking at James Robinson. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Other possible moves: The pick could be thrown in to help sweeten a deal to move one of the Magic's players, helping to free salary cap dollars for Webber. Also, Orlando could try to package this pick with one or both of next year's #1's, to move up in the '94 draft. ============================================================================ Draft Summary: 7.
