The 19th pick of the Usenet draft belongs to the Dallas Mavaricks.
This pick was obtained from the Golden State Warriors in a three
way trade that also include the Chicago Bulls. The Mavs got the
first round pick of the Warriors, the Warriors got Byron Houston
from the Bulls and the Bulls got Rodney McCray from Dallas. As
was the case with the second pick, Dallas is represented by:

    Theo Wendt

who selects: Kendrick Warren, SF, 6-8. Virginia Commonwealth. Since the Mavs have already had a pick, they will not be providing a complete team analysis again, simply an analysis of the pick. ================================================================== NEEDS ----- With the addition of Kidd, the point guard spot becomes one of the Mavs stronger positions. With many good prospects at center next year, and already having Sean Rooks, the Mavs should be looking for a PF. However many of the good power forward have already gone at this point in the draft and the mavs may be looking at a different position MY SELECTION ------------ My selection with the ninteenth pick is Kendrick Warren, SF, Virginia Commonwealth. I feel that Warren could be a great backup to Mashburn. Although there is a need at PF, I feel that Mashburn's reserves are not very good. OTHERS CONSIDERED ----------------- At this point in the draft very little is certain. I originally had a list about twenty people long but narrowed it down to eight. I was really considering taking Voshon Lenard, but the Mavs already have a potentially good backup in Harris. Deon Thomas and Bill Curley were considered because they are good prospects. Jim McIlvaine was considered because he is potentially a starting center in the NBA. Charles Claxton was considered because he supposedly would have been a high pick next year, but is considered raw. Finally Khalid Reeves was considered because he was a projected lottery pick but the mavs already have their point guard in Kidd. OTHER MOVES THE TEAM SHOULD MAKE -------------------------------- At this point, in the real draft, several point guard will probably still be available. A team, like San Antonio, that is afraid that one of the next three picks will take their desired guard might be willing to trade up. Also, of the twenty players on my list I realize that the mavs will be able to get one of them with the twenty-eighth pick. Such people as Derrick Alston, Michael Smith, Bill Curley, Lawrence Funderburke, or even Warren might be available at that point. ==================================================================== Draft summary: 1.
