The man who brought us Yinka Dare with the 6th pick :-) is back
at 20. The 76ers obtained this pick from Utah for Jeff
Hornacek. The 76ers GM is again:

   Brent Halliburton

He uses Utahs pick to select: Voshon Lenard, SG, 6-4. Minnesota ====================================================================== Team Analysis: See Pick #6 How I Arrived At This: I was psyched as my opportunity to draft approached because there were so many great guards left to take. Philadelphia needs help everywhere but Center and Small Forward. (And if a really good small forward was on the board, Philly could use him too, because Clarence could play PF if he had too.) This was definitely a BPA draft for the Sixers. For this reason, I started my preparation for the draft by making a list of who my top twenty picks would be. This list had a distinctive bias away from centers (McIlvaine, Montross, and Mobley were not even on the list) but that didn't keep me from drafting Yinka. Now, I am excited because of my top twenty picks, 5 of them, all guards, are still on the board. Philly could use a young guard. Ones I didn't pick (In reverse order on my list of people I wanted): Eric Piatkowski: Not quick enough, too many other great guards left on the board. Aaron McKie & Eddie Jones: The 76ers will probably pick one of these players. Home town favorites in the land of notoriously low attendance. These guys can shoot from all over the court, and John Chaney taught them the meaning of real defense. These guys come ready to play. They will fit right in with any NBA team. I thought I might pick one of these, but there were two gaurds I liked a little more still on the board. Khalid Reeves: I am surprised he slipped this far. He had an incredible year, but I worry, because he is short for a SG, a below average passer and defender, and he didn't perform anywhere near expectation until he had a top flight PG (Stoudamire) next to him. He was in my top ten for people who could help Philly. If they hadn't been taken, I would have grabbed Wingfield, or Grant. Who I did Pick: Only a little better than Khalid, I like him because hes got the attitude, strength, quickness, and size to be a big game player. Lots of range, passing skills, ballhandling. He comes up big in big games. These are skills this team could use in a young guard. There is one big knock and one little knock on Voshon. The little knock is his D, which has been steadily improving and I think you can expect to be much better. There are very few players who come into the league playing NBA level defense. The big knock is he is not ready. People think he would have been better off staying another year. Philly is the place for people not quite ready for prime time. He will get plenty of playing time and room to make mistakes. I think Voshon will develop into a great guard and if the big knock is inexperience, well, that something I think a clutch player like him will overcome. Who Philly might pick: Look for Philly to pick a hometown favorite. Jones and McKie are players who can step into a situation and immediately chip in 15 points a game. Also, the management has to hope that something will solve the eternal attendance problems that plague the 76ers. =================================================================== Draft Summary: 1.
