"The Big Dog", as he is known, had an excellent year, leading the
nation in scoring while leading his team, the Boilermakers to the NCAA
  quarterfinals.

Many thought Glenn would be the first player picked had he come out
last year as a sophomore. This year it is hard to imagine him not
being chosen first. The most likely player in the draft to
immediately step in and help a team, he already has plenty of NBA
moves to show people. He is an impact player both inside and out,
able to rebound and take it inside or shoot the three.

In many games he played in this year, Glenn looked like a man among
boys, able to score at will and play all over the court. Duke exposed
what might be Glenn's only Weakness in the NCAA quarterfinals. Glenn
was unable to score going to his left. If going left and scoring a
lot of points is important to you, Glenn just might let you down, but
then if thats his only weakness, I would be pretty excited about him.

Another aspect of his game that might be questionable is his passing.
In other words, what will happen when Glenn is not expected to account
for the bulk of a teams scoring. The NBA will be the first time that
Glenn will be matched up against players that can effectively silence
him and the first time that Glenn will be paired with players he may
  want to pass to.

A strong rebounder and post player with defensive strength, quickness,
an outside shot; Glenn Robinson will not last beyond the top three
picks, and most likely will go number one. It is hard to imagine a
  team passing up his talent.

Possibly the 4th - 5th player to be picked this year - especially if
the Pistons get one of these picks (lets face it, despite the fact the
Pistons HAVE a good PF in Mills, they will still pick him).

Howard is the complete package for an NBA power forward. He defends
well, he rebounds well, he shoots well, and he works hard. What else
do you want from a player. It would be nice if he could leap like
Jordan, but he cant, but with the way he plays, it doesnt matter.

He played center in college, but despite the fact he will probably be
asked to play some center in the NBA, he is really a power forward.
He works hard to beat his player down court, and works hard when he
gets the ball - and works REALLY hard when he is playing defence. Do
we see a pattern here? This guy can play.

After Webber left, Howard was the only member of the fab-4 that
stepped up - Rose just shot the ball more, King regressed, and Jackson
didn't really improve til the end of the year. Talented, and willing
to work at being better. There is a lot of players out there who wont
do this - his attitude is something that will make him a great NBA
  player.

You cant go wrong picking Howard in this years draft - he is head
and shoulders above anyone except for Kidd, Hill and GRob. His stock
has risen all year, and I thought he was close to being the best player
in the NCAA tournament. Before the year started, I thought when it
came to being drafted Howard and Rose were close. No longer - Howard
  by a long way.

More poop:

During the recent NCAA Tournament, the whole country saw the kind of
Juwan Howard that Michigan fans have been seeing all year, and, to a
  lesser extent, for three years.

Juwan is quite simply, the best post player I've seen in college ball
in a long time. He has a wide variety of moves, and into each one he
incorporates perfect footwork. He has a super jump hook with either
hand, and shoots an almost unblockable turnaround going right or left.
Against the bigger players, he uses the drop step well. As good as he
is in the post after he gets the ball, Howard might be better
beforehand. He moves very well along the baseline, and establishes and
holds position with superb skill and strength. When needed Juwan
passes very well, both in kicking the ball out, and in finding other
  interior players and cutters.

In other aspects of his game, he is also at the least solid. He gets
very good rebounding position, and carried a LARGE part of the
rebounding load for an undersized Wolverine squad this year. Juwan is
a good defender, but doesn't block a lot of shots. He is more
effective at getting good position, and using his strength to keep
people away from the kind of position they want.

Juwan is a more than capable ball-handler for a big man, and runs the
floor quite well, as one would expect from a member of the Fab 5. :)

It seems this review has been rather overwhelmingly positive so..As
I've noted, Howard is not a shot-blocker. He doesn't jump to the moon,
though he is pretty athletic. Finally, I don't think Howard can play
extended minutes at center in the NBA. He is plenty big enough to play
the 4 spot, but right now would have match up problems against the
  bigger centers in the NBA.

On a final note, folks should know that Juwan has a huge heart, and is
as hard a worker as you will find. He comes to play EVERY game, and
gives 100%. I guess these sound cliched, but they are very true in
  this case.

Juwan Howard will be an excellent NBA player, perhaps an All-Star. He
should be chosen no later than 5th in the draft, perhaps as early as
  2nd.

Rozier left UNC after his freshman year because he felt restriced
by UNC's system. Judging by his play at Louisville, he made the
right choice. Left to freelance, Rozier put up some great numbers.
However, Rozier really slumped in the NCAA tourney.

Offensively Rozier can take the ball an after an dazzling array of
moves, score over any player. All that said, Rozier has trouble when
forced to go to his left. This will hurt him in the NBA. Rozier
also seemed to have trouble finding his teammates.

Defensively, Rozier sometimes looks like he could not care less.
He is a great shotblocker and seems to do better when he does not
have to guard one man, but can sit back and wait for someone to come
  down the lane.

I'm not a big fan of Clifford. I remember one play against Tulane
when Louisville stole the ball and had 3-4 shots at the basket. 9
out of the 10 players on the floor fought for the rebounds, the one
player who did not make it down in the ~30 seconds of actions was
  Rozier.

All that said, Rozier is a certain lottery pick and should have a
  long NBA career.

Dontonio Wingfield came into college basketball literally with a bang.
After a storied HS career at Westover HS in Albany GA, before he even
played a single minute at Cincinnati, he was already embroiled in
controversy over his ACT scores and an incident that occured at his
home in which the police had to come over to calm him down. On the
court, he had solid freshman season. Wingfield is a good leaper, has
the physique of a Karl Malone, can bang around inside, and can also go
outside and easily hit the 3. Wingfield projects as a power forward,
but has the versatility to play small forward, or even off guard in
the NBA. Obviously, Wingfield's attitude and decision making are
questioned. First, the fact he is the first freshman to make himself
eligible for the professional ranks since Mark Olberding went to the
ABA in the 70's, says something in itself. Wingfield is definitely a
confident young man. At times this season, he openly feuded with
coach Bob Huggins, but being the disciplinarian that Huggins is, it
might be understandable. It should be interesting to see where
Wingfield lands in the pros. He has all the skills, if he goes to a
team where he might be allowed to freelance a bit, the talent may rise
  above any attitude problems.

Carlos Rogers looks to be another sleeper in the '94 draft. Coming
from a smaller school in a smaller conference in Tennesse State and
the OVC, Rogers certainly did not get the press that many other
players did this past season. But Rogers is the real deal. After
transferring to Tennessee State from Arkansas-Little Rock, Rogers has
led the Tigers in scoring, rebounding, and shot blocks in his 2
seasons. He was also the 2-time OVC player of the year. Some may
question his quality of opposition, but Rogers has played with the
best, and risen to the top. He competed for the US Men's World
University Games team with the likes of Ed O'Bannon and Antonio Lang,
and was the team's leading scorer and 2nd leading rebounder on a gold
medal winning team. In addition to scoring and rebounding, Rogers is
an excellent shot blocker. Rogers could be as high as a lottery pick,
  depending on the team's needs.

Bill Curley, recent SI coverboy, is a workhorse with a great heart for
the game. He played center in college, but should make a smooth
transition to a bonafide PF in the pros. He knows the paint inside
out. He also has a nice touch out to 15 or so ft. - though the
outside shooting at BC was largely reserved for all the 3-pt bombers.
Curley is one tough kid, and just plain gets the job done. He doesn't
whine, panic, or give up when things get rough (reminds me of Juwan
Howard in that way). He may not be the best defensive big man I've
seen (the center from Florida had a great game against him), but he's
not afraid to body up and get in the way.

The cat was let out of this bag during the NCAA tourney, where his
skills were on display nationwide. The all-star setting at the Phoenix
pre-draft was not conducive to anyone giving him the ball inside, so
most of his scoring was on RB and putbacks, but believe me, GMs know
  what he can do.

I would love it if he slipped to the second round where Boston could
pick him up, but he should be long gone by then. Think of what Orlando
could do with him! I also think Phoenix or Utah might take him, with
Barkley and Malone winding down. I see him being next in the PF line
after GROB, Rozier, and maybe Wingfield.

Brian Grant is really a 6-9 center, which is a very rare animal in

some respect around his native paint. He is a great rebounder and
defender with a great back-to-the basket game. He's played well
against big time competition in various tournaments, although he
didn't face much of it in his small conference. It may take him some
time to adjust to facing dominant post players in the pros.

He definitely has the court savvy to make this kind of transition,
as his high FG % shows that his shot selection is excellent. He is
unlikely ever to be a dominant player, but could be the kind of solid
defensive role player that fills out a team. Grant Long of the Heat
comes to mind as a limited player who by sheer hard work has
maintained his starting position and has become crucial to the team's
success. Brian Grant could be that kind of player. I expect him to
go low in the first round, or possibly early in the second round. He
might go higher if a team is hungry for a power forward. A team like
Chicago or San Antonio might be able to make use of his services, or
  perhaps Orlando.

Poop:
Review: 6-9, 241 C An aggressive center that played best against
better players. A power forward that was made to play center.

Strengths: A hard worker inside. Played best games against the better
  and taller centers. Good rebounder.

Weaknesses: Lack of size for an NBA center. Might make a better
forward. No outside shot. Quickness is so-so. He can beat the
slower players, but got burned by quicker players. Ball handling.
  Missed some easy put-backs.

Overall: A real questionable draft choice. Makes a better F than C.

Deon Thomas is an ouststanding talent who needs to put it all together.
He has great physical tools, but has been hampered by inconsistency.
Thomas has played center throughout his career, but with the addition
of junior college standout Sfelfy Clark, he has moved to his more
natural position. He has increased his stamina and strength to become
  the Illini's all-time leading scorer.

I heard a rumor that Thomas only measured 6-7 in a pre draft camp.

Simon is a big-time recruit who's emerged form the shadow of Ervin
Johnson as a senior. He was the focal point the NO offense this
season. he has and NBA body and a good inside game, but needs to
stretch his game and show more outside shooting ability.

Albert Burditt is one of those hustle players who plays about 3"
taller than he actually is. You can count on him to always be in
there fighting for every board, diving for every loose ball, and
jumping for the put back. In Texas' guard-oriented offense, we didn't
get to see a lot of his post moves, so that's a bit of an wild card.
What you did see was a big man who can run the court very well, plays
good defense against the break, and is willing to settle for "hustle
baskets" instead of being the only man. Conditioning is good and he
didn't have any injury problems. He doesn't have a great jump shot
though, and that may hurt him. At 6'8" he's a bit short to be a great
PF, but he doesn't have the range to be an effective SF.

Best case scenario is that he becomes another Buck Williams - maybe 10
points a game, but a lot of rebounds and good defense coming of the
bench. Worst case scenario is that he's not tall or strong enough to
score underneath and never develops a reliable outside shot to
compensate. Take Burditt if you need a solid sixth man who help with
  matchup problems on the interior.

Poop:

Ricky Robinson is a 6-8 power forward from West Virginia. (I must
confess that I've only seen him play 15-20 times over his career, but
in preparing this report, I did talk to a couple of other people with
good basketball judgement, IMHO, who have seen him play a few more
  times.)

STRENGTHS:

Inside scoring- For the past couple of years, Robinson has been WVU's
only legitimate inside scoring threat. As a result, he received a lot
of defensive attention almost every time he got the ball near the
basket. Even still, he was able to convert a large number of shots.
It seemed that every time I saw him play he would get the ball in
heavy traffic a couple times and still find a way to convert. IMHO he
will be still be able to do this (though to a lesser extent) in the
NBA (where he will face better defenders but lesser attention). He's
probably never going to be a primary option but he does have some good
  inside moves and can score.

Size (not height)- Robinson has what is usually described as a
"pro-type" body. That is, he's a big strong guy who is also pretty
athletic (and not overweight). He should be able to hold his own
physically with most power forwards in the NBA. Though he will give
up a couple inches to most other inside players, he shouldn't get
pushed around a lot. He was a pretty good position defender in
college, it's just a question of whether he can to be effective
against players who are taller and equally strong.

Development- Robinson is the type of player who is already well
developed physically and skill-wise (at least at the things he does
well). He's not likely going to be a "project" player. He's not
going to be the type of player who GMs will look at and say "he could
be good if he gains/loses weight, learns some good post moves, learns
how to play physical, etc." This could work for him (you have a good
idea of what you're getting) or against him (GMs are more apt go with
a less polished player who has a higher "upper bound").

Foul Drawing- Consistent with the image of a strong inside player,
Robinson also went to the line a lot (around 6.5 FTA per 40 minutes
his senior year). Unfortunately, he converted only 61.7% of his
attempts over his career and showed no real improvement over his
  career.

Attitude/ Work Ethic- I hesitate to include this because a good
attitude certainly isn't enough to get you in the NBA by itself (just
as a bad one won't keep you out). But when a coach is looking for a
player to sit at the end of the bench and rarely play outside of
practice, he doesn't need a guy who is going to cause problems. By
all reports I've seen, Robinson seems like the kind of guy who works
hard and doesn't provoke altercations with his opponents, teammates,
or coaches. He also seems to be the kind of guy who knows and accepts
his role on the team- not hurting the team by trying to do things that
  he is not good at.

  WEAKNESSES:

Height: Robinson's only real position is power forward. Most NBA
power forwards are a couple of inches taller than Ricky. This will
cause problems, mainly defensively. He will be pretty easy to shoot
over. Even in college, against shorter players, he was never a
shotblocker (last season he recordered a career high of just 9 blocks
all season). So he may not even be able to contest the shots of
taller, more skilled NBA players. His only hope is using his strength
to keep opponents from getting the ball in the first place.

Lack of Versatility: Robinson has displayed little ballhandling or
passing ability and no outside shot. It's not that he shoots poorly,
he just doesn't shoot outside at all. While he is fairly athletic for
a big guy, he is almost certainly not quick enough to keep up with NBA
small forwards (as well as many power forwards with a versatile game).
There are some undersized power forwards in the NBA without much of
versatile game, but these guys are almost always "rebound machines."
Robinson is a good rebounder, but almost certainly not good enough to
make a career as a rebound specialist. He averaged around 7 or 8
rebounds per game for his career as a starter which seems adequate but
you must realize that WVU had no other effective rebounders (5-8 point
guard Marsalis Basey averaged about as many rebounds per game as 6-10
  center Phil Wilson).

Inconsistency: Robinson had a great sophomore season earning 1st team
All A-10 honors. Much was then expected of him after this, but he
never became the consistent star that was hoped. From watching games
and reading boxscores, it seemed that he would have a great game one
day and disappear the next. He showed no real improvement his junior
year and dropped to 3rd team All A-10. Came back a little stronger
his final season but never really lived up to the promise indicated by
  his sophomore season.

OUTLOOK: Depending on how he performs in the pre-draft camps (I
haven't heard anything, so he probably hasn't made a major
impression). He is probably a second round choice. If a team is
looking for a player to provide some inside strength and scoring in
practice, he could stick around, or else its off to Europe or the CBA.
His hopes may also depend a bit on whether or not he "loses" 2 inches
to the official tape measure like many prospects do. At 6-8 a team
may be willing to give him a try, at 6-6 he would be more of a long
  shot.

Poop:
Chris Lawson is a 6'9" 260 pound classic potential NBA hatchet man of
25 years ago. Unfortunately these days, hatchet men have gotten a
little bigger and a little more mobile. To compare him to a current
Vanderbilt pro, I would use Jeff Turner of Orlando. However, Lawson
is not as good as Turner.

Strengths: Shooting. Chris has a good 15 foot jumper, and makes a
decent percentage of his free throws. He also has a little hook that
he can use when guarded. He also sets a solid pick.

Weaknesses: Immobile and can't jump. More deadly, he has bad hands on
rebounds. That is, when he grabs a rebound, it is quite susceptible
to being batted away. He also tends to get intimidated from time to
time, which can effect his offense.

Synopsis: I can't see him being drafted. His lack of mobility is a
fatal flaw in the up and down NBA play and the fact that power
forwards in the NBA are much more mobile and athletic than in the
past. As I say, Lawson is about 25 years behind the times for an NBA
career. At least he's got a Vanderbilt degree to fall back on.
