General Info: Dampier is a two-time All-SEC selection, who set the career and season high for blocked shots at Mississippi State. Comments: Dampier has the build to play center in the N.B.A. He has very limited offensive skills. Summary: He's expected to be a top 10 selection. |
MORE POOP(Scout: Steve Bland) |
This is coming from a UK fan who has watched Eric Dampier enough to be glad he is leaving for the NBA. Strengths: outstanding physical specimen, good athlete. strong rebounder and defensive player. at times has shown potential to be a good passer as well Weaknesses: doesn't have the best hands in the world. no jump shot to speak of. offensive game is limited at present In a nutshell: Dampier has been a dominant center in a league full of world class athletes. He is not an outstanding offensive player, but can rebound and play defense with the best of them. He will not turn a team around by himself, but could fit in well with a team that has quality players at the other positions. (probably better than anyone Chicago has right now playing pivot). |

POOP(Scout: William Taylor) |
Todd Fuller came to NC State in 1992 as a top 100 prospect out of the Charlotte area. As a freshman, he showed signs of potential as a traditional center. His hook shot and footwork were impressive for a freshman, thanks in part to former coach Bobby Jones. His game was hindered by the slowness and lack of agility which characterizes many younger big men. He got some valuable minutes in his first season, backing up Kevin Thompson. After the gradutation of Thompson, Fuller became the leading big man for the Wolfpack. His progress was slow but sure, as he developed his hook, drop step, and defense. His deliberate but effective game (and, no doubt, his crew cut) brought comparisons to UNC star Eric Montross. Still, not many people took notice of Fuller as he labored for the Wolfpack through loss after infamous loss. As a sophomore and junior, Fuller was overshadowed by bigger and quicker ACC centers including Montross, Christian Laetner, Joe Smith, and Rasheed Wallace. His old-style game, incorporating more hooks than dunks and more precision 6-foot jumpers than spin moves, was less effective against the quicker competition. Fuller found himself competing against players who would become forwards in the pros, and who had developed more ball handling and body control skills than he. Still, he had two solid seasons from '93 to '95, even if his team did not. By sticking to his style and working hard, Fuller met and exceeded his potential in the '95-'96 season. His hook was now a potent weapon, his ball handling had improved, and he could now move with the best of them. Still, he made a living at being a traditional center, choosing the fadeaway over a Joe Smith-type contortionist shot. His rebounding improved as his size and strength increased. And to complete the package, he retained his ability to hit free throws, hovering at around 80% his senior season. In head to head matchups against the nations premier big men, Fuller enjoyed success, outscoring Marcus Camby in the Rainbow Classic and dueling Tim Duncan to a draw in their only true matchup early in the ACC season (Fuller had the flu in their second meeting.) Fuller projects as the best true center in the draft. His pluses are a physical game, great feel around the basket, and a good work ethic. His hook shot compares well with the best centers in the NBA, as does his short to mid-range jump shot. Coaches will like his sincere and polite attitude as much as they like his strength. Fuller is also a class act and very intelligent (3.95 GPA). His weakness is his height, which may combine poorly with his game in the NBA. A true center playing an old-style game could use 7'+ height, which Fuller does not have. His coordination, while effective enough to do major damage near the basket in the NCAA, doesn't allow him to shift effectively to power forward against NBA competition. His mid-range shot will help him there though. Overall, Fuller is not an instant NBA star and will most likely go lower than several smaller impact players. |

General Info: Selected first team All-ACC. Comments: Fuller has made tremendous strides during his career. He's performed well in matchups against Tim Duncan and Marcus Camby. Summary: Fuller is one of the top-rated centers, and will likely be a lottery selection. |

POOP (Scout: Phil Bedard ) |
What was this guy thinking in declaring for the NBA draft? Not only has his stock dropped dramatically since his freshman season, but Robinson should have learned from his former teammate Scotty Thurman's disasterous experience in declaring early last year and watching himself be left undrafted. Obviously, intilligence isn't one of Robinson's strengths. Amazingly, Robinson has gone downhill since his freshman season when the Razorbacks won the NCAA title. If he had declared for the draft after his freshman season, he would have been a certain lottery pick. He should have stepped up his game this year when he was finally the 'man' in Arkansas with the departure of Thurman, Corliss Williamson, Clint McDaniel, and Corey Beck. Instead, he dropped the ball, although nagging injuries did affect his performance. On the plus side, Robinson and good size and physical talen. He can hit the occasional three point shot, but at times falls in love with the three, fancying himself as an off-guard. Instead of using his size and stregth, Robinson often floats around the perimeter away from the flow of the game. His sheer size and quickness made him an above average rebounder in college, but he has yet to show the work ethic and heart needed to make it in the NBA. Unless a serious attitude adjustment hits Robinson between now and the draft, he appears destined to be taken as a 2nd-rounder or not at all, and kick around Europe or the CBA for a few years and then fall of the face of the planet. |

A very smart and unselfish player, who is actually a better athlete than he looks. He doesnt have the strength to bang on the blocks, and plays more with his face to the basket. Fairly athletic and agile for size, needs to bulk up more. Decent touch around basket, but has poor hands. Complains about calls alot, could lose composure with NBA refs. General Info: Potapenko, a Ukranian native, is entering the draft, but he may return for his senior season. Comments: He has good size and pretty good mobility. He was able to score 20 points per game despite the full attention of opposing defenses. Needs to improve his rebounding. Summary: He probably be selected mid-late first round. |

POOP(Scout: Owen P O'Malley) |
General Info: Gingold transfered to West Virginia, but was sidelined with injuries sustained in a auto accident. He's hired an agent, so he'll be available for the draft. Comments: Gingold has been working out for scouts at a local gym. Summary: A project with massive size, Gingold could be a real "sleeper" early in the second round, like Gheorge Muresan was. |
POOP(Scout: Scott Granowitz) |
- Gingold is from North Caldwell, NJ - Even though he was 7'3", coming out of high school, he was not very athletic so he ended up playing about 30 minutes in two years at Williams College, a small Division III private school located near the Massachusetts/NY border. - Was declared the tallest Jew to ever play college basketball by the National Jewish Post & Opinion. - Transferred to WVU because it was time "to start chasing guys his size", according to the Williams coach (this I read in SI and the Boston Globe). - Never played at WVU because he ended up breaking his hip during an automobile accident during Labor Day Weekend on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. - Was finishing up his degree at Williams this past year and apparently applied to a bunch of law schools, in case his NBA dream does not come through. - Has been working out each weekend with his agent in CT (Gillman, I think his name is). This agent is the same guy who convinced Yinka Dare to leave school early, without having Dare consult Coach Jarvis. Because of this, I question whether Gillman(?) is putting on NBA scouts by not letting Gingold participate in scrimmages. Gillman(?) said Gingold has no reason to participate in the pre-draft scrimmages because they are "guard oriented". - If Gingold has potential, than why couldn't he get playing time at a Division III school? There are plenty of other 7 footers that never played a second in the NBA, but at least got playing time in college. But who knows? Gingold is now 7'4" and 300 pounds, very few NBA players even have this kind of size . . . If Gingold turns out to have a succesful NBA career, he will probably be the biggest "project" in history. |
