Daniels has emeraged as the top point guard in this years draft. He has good size at 6'4" and an 80-inch wingspan that makes him play even larger still. Daniels finished 7th in the nation in scoring and 10th in assists. He is a good finisher and can hit the outside shot. His FG% took a huge jump from his junior to Senior years (47.8 to 54.7). His 54.7% is almost unheard of in this day and age from a guard. Daniels is a sure lottery pick and should be the 1st PG selected. |

Antonio Daniels was named as the MAC Freshman of the year after the 1993-94 season after averaging 12.6 ppg and 3.9 apg. Right then and there the expectations were set. But he then hit a brick wall, aka the "sophomore jinx". As a sophomore he averaged 10.3 pts and 3.8 apg. The knock against him in his first three years was that while being super athletic, he couldn't consistently hit the outside jumper. In his junior year, he averaged 16 ppg, 5.9 apg and was named to the ALL-MAC Second team. And then very unexpectedly his brother Chris, a standout at the University of Dayton, died of Cardiac Arythmia on February 8,1996. It was during his junior year that A.D. dedicated the rest of his career and both of their aspirations of the NBA to his brother's memory. A.D. flourished in his senior year. He was named the MAC Player of the Year. He finally proved that he could hit the three, shooting a very respectable 43.3%. He also showed that he could take the game over at almost any time, and averaged 23.7 ppg and 6.8 apg. He scored 30+ points six times, all BG wins. Bowling Green finished 22-10 this year and lost in the first round of the NIT to West Virginia, by a score of 98-95. Daniels put on a very good showing in front of the handful of NBA scouts in attendence, putting up a career high 38 points to go along with eight assists and six steals. He was also 5-7 from three point range, and his 30 footer to win the game bounced off the rim as time expired. Daniels is super athletic, a great leaper, and can drop dimes with the best of them. His defensive skills could be a little refined, and sometimes he is too unselfish, but during his senior year he really started looking for his own shot more often. His 80 inch wingspan allows him to play bigger than he really is. At 6'4", 195, he already has the prototype NBA point guard's body. His game is a lot like Penny Hardaway's. And he could really play the two-guard position if called upon to. I think he has the best chance out of the top four PG's (Daniels, Billups, Vaughn, Knight) to contribute to a team right away. He is bigger and stronger than all of them, and while Billups may have the best potential out of all of them, A.D. is ready to play now. The death of his brother really made him a stronger person, and a more mature one. He is living out the dreams of two people right now. And on a little different note - In Daniels first game back after going home to Columbus for his brother's death, he won the game on a layup with just seconds left on the clock. That game was supposed to be the first one that Chris would see Antonio play at in his college career. He went the length of the court, and had one defender in front of him at the free throw line - who for no apparent reason - fell down. If you know Antonio or any of his friends and family, they'll tell you that Chris made it to the game that day...and he tripped that defender. |

Billups is probably the best guard in the draft. He has a little more size than Knight or Vaughn, which is a big factor. Also, he is a excellent shooter and passer. He also is like Knight in the sense that he can lead his team in the big games, like agains North Carolina in the NCAA Tourney. One of his only weaknesses is that he is a little overeager, which can lead to turnovers or bad shots. But in my opinion,he is the best guard in the draft. Period. |

The development of Brevin Knight is a nice story. Not highly recruited out of high school, Knight eventually became one of the nation's best point guards, and was the main reason for Stanford's success this season. Knight has great point guard skills. He is quick, a fearless pentrator, a great passer, handles the ball almost flawlessly, and he can shoot from long range. Defensively, he has quick hands, and is very adept at stealing the ball. Knight always come to play. He is at his best when there is a lot on the line, as he performed well in the NCAA Tournament over seasons at Stanford. He is a good clutch player and a team leader, and is the type of point guard a coach would want- the type who makes his teammates better by his leadership. Brevin Knight will be a lottery pick, but it is difficult to project just where in the lottery he will go. This is largely due to the reluctance of many teams to draft a point guard very early in the draft, with some exceptions (notably Allen Iverson and Stephon Marbury in the top five last year). Knight should be a star in the NBA for many seasons. |

All American from Kansas has enough knowledge of the game to make it in the pro's. He can run a set offense with any team, but he is not a scoring threat. His passing and defense skills are superb, but scoring is definetely not his cup of tea. I believe he will go to a team needing a leader, probaly the LA Clippers when their pick comes around early in the first round. |

Andre is a tremendous PG prospect. He's very good at beating the defender off the dribble, and spotting up for mid-range jump shots. He's a good all-around player, and I think he deserves to be a top 15 selection. |

THIS ELECTRIC PLAYMAKER IS HARD TO TRAP . HE SPOTS THE OPEN MAN AND ALSO UNDERSTANDS HOW TO DIRECT AN OFFENSE. DEFENDERS FIND HIM DIFFICULT TO CONTAIN BECAUSE HE HAS THE QUICKNESS TO BEAT THEM OFF THE DRIBBLE AND THE TOUCH TO DRAIN A PERIMETER JUMPER. HE IS A AT HIS BEST WHEN THE SHOT CLOCK IS WINDING DOWN. HE LACKS THE SIZE DEFENSIVE TO OPPOSING BIGGER GUARDS AND LOOKS LIKE A POST UP TARGET. EVERY ONCE A WHILE WOOLRIDGE WILL THOW UP A BADN SHOT. Kiwane Garris looked like a future star during his freshman year, continued to move in that direction his sophomore year, did not seem to improve much his junior year, then finally had a senior season that his fans and many analysts knew he was capable of. Garris was what made the Illini go in 1996-97. He led the team in scoring, assists, and steals. He was the team leader at both ends of the floor, and he was an All-American for his efforts. One knock on Garris over his first three seasons was that he looked for his own offense too much, and it was thought that his good three-point shooting would be neutralized by playing him at the point, even though he will not play much, if any, shooting guard in the NBA at 6'2". Some thought he was more of a shooting guard than a point guard because he was a good shooter; in fact, during his junior season, they moved Richard Keene, the school's all-time leader in three-point shots made, to the point on occasion and switched Garris to the shooting guard spot. However, Garris has always posessed the skills to be a solid point guard. He is a very good penetrator, is quick, and can steal the ball defensively. His outside shooting ability is a plus. What he needed to do was involve his teammates, which he did this season. Kiwane Garris should be a mid-late first round pick. His complete game offensively, plus his good defense, should make him a solid point guard for many seasons in the NBA. |

KIWANNE GARRIS is a elusive dibbler he can take the his defender off the dribble. He is nt a pure shooter he is at his best when slashing to the goal like i said his jump shot is not 100% but ijt is reliable defense has been a problem for him. He is not the kind of athlete whoi can rely on a big body to wear others down. When healthy he kept illinois in the top 25 I DON'T THINK HE WILL GET DRAFTED. Perhaps a stint oversea's or cba will help him itrodunce himself to the nba. |

Background: A major factor in Minnesota's excellent season, which included a Big Ten title and a Final Four NCAA appearance, Bobby Jackson had seemingly come out of nowhere to become one of the top college players in the nation this season, earning 2nd team AP All-American and 1st team Big Ten honors. Strengths: Bobby is an excellent overall athlete. He has the speed and quickness to push the ball up the floor, break a press, apply defensive pressure, and get in the lane. Has nice strength and toughness for his size, as well as leaping ability. He is good at finishing or drawing fouls. He is an excellent rebounder for a six-footer. Has all the intangibles you could ask for -- heart, desire to win, ability to elevate his game when necessary, etc. as demonstrated by his NCAA performance. A solid free-throw shooter, and able to make them with the game on the line. Weaknesses: Not a pure playmaking PG. More of a scorer's mentality. Doesn't have the range of a guard either - shot 32% from the college arc this season, averaging less than one make per game. More comfortable taking the shorter jumper. Projection: The combination of not being a pure point and good outside shooter seems unfavorable for a little man, and I believe this will hurt Jackson at draft time, even though some scouts currently (post-Desert Classic) have him in the early 20s. He certainly has value because of his athleticism, ball-handling and defense, and may contribute in the right situation; however, improving his playmaking and long-range shooting is a must. I see him as an early 2nd round pick at best. |

There hasn't been a more controversial student-athlete at Providence College than God Shammgod, perhaps since Marvin Barnes. From his name to his game, debate has raged among fans and the media alike. Some say he is the best PC point guard since the legendary Ernie DiGregorio, others feel he is just a showboat. The facts are that he is an immensely talented player, possessing great speed, ball handling and passing skills, and the ability to lead a team. He is also, however, just a sophmore. Not Isiah Thomas as a sophmore, or Magic Johnson as a sophmore, or even Allen Iverson as a sophmore. Shammgod's great performance in the NCAA Tournament showed the potential he has. But, his shortcomings also showed, and none more glaring than his missed twelve-foot jumper that would have sent the Friars to the Final Four. Although he is a marvelous passer and ballhandler, offensively, Sham's game is not up to NBA caliber. He still takes the ball inside and leaves his feet too quickly. Against most college teams he can bail himself out of that jam. In the NBA, he will rack up the turnovers. Defensively, he can handle most guards his size, but the better and bigger point guards will give him a tough time if they post him up. In short, he would have been better off with another year at PC. Sham has a shot as a first round pick, depending on the peculiarities of the draft, but is more likely a 2nd round choice. He will have to be in the right situation to make an NBA team. |

A couple of seasons ago, DeJuan Wheat probably did not figure to be as important to Louisville as he was during his senior season. Many probably figured that he would have players like Jason Osborne and Samaki Walker to help make his job as the man running the show a little bit easier, all the while being a solid complementary player. But Osborne and Walker left school early for the NBA Draft (Osborne did not make it), so Wheat was left as the main man. Even with Walker last season (Osborne was ineligible the entire season), Wheat was a mainstay, and he carried it into this season. While he played the point guard spot, many do not feel that he is a true point guard. In the sense that he looks for his own shot more often than not, that is true; but he has the skills to be a fine point guard in the NBA, which is a good thing for him, as he will not play shooting guard at 6'0". He handles the ball very well and does not take many bad shots, and he is a good penetrator. He is an effective passer, though he will not break any assist records. He is also a good leaper, and he runs the fast break well. Defensively, Wheat is solid, though most casual observers will notice two of his backcourt mates over his years at Louisville, Tick Rogers and Alvin Sims, before Wheat in terms of defense. DeJuan holds his own at holding down the opposing point man. DeJuan Wheat has the tools for a solid NBA career. He should be a late first round pick, and the team that drafts him will have made a wise decision. |

Anthony was voted Trans America Conference Player of the Year. He had a good showing at the Portsmouth Invitational pre-draft camp. Scouts like his ability to run an offense. He could be this year's Derek Fisher. |

HAROLD DEANE will not step away from a challenge no matter what it is. although he thinks he creates scoring apportunities for his team mates when slashing to the goal. He is a very good rebounder for his size and postion very durable. He tries to hard offensively in that he he tries to score first and then create for his teamates second. Forces to many bad shots and doesn't react well to double teams. Deane unfortatly I do not think will get drafted. |

Harold Deane-- Outstanding student-athlete who missed a couple of games when he only needed 10 credits to graduate in his fourth year, only took 10, then NCAA said he had to take 12 to play. His game has regressed dramatically since his tremendous sophomore year. His shot is inconsistent and his decisions with the ball are erratic. He's a good man-to-man defender but then, too he fouls a lot and takes a lot of T's. He's probably got a better career coming to him outside of basketball, given his other skills; he's nothing like an NBA player at this time. |
