Jahidi is a player with vast potential that has been largely untapped. His
weight and size are the perfect mold for an NBA power forward - huge, massive,
and strong.
Jahidi is a space-eater in the middle. When he gets a firm grip on the
ball less than 5 feet from the basket, there isn't a human being on earth who
can stop him from dunking it. He is a good rebounder and uses his weight well to
block out opponents. For a man his size, he's surprisingly quick off of
his feet. He is an excellent shot-blocker due to his quickness and his strength.
Most NBA rookies have problems handling stronger veteran players at their
position. Jahidi should have no such problems, though he may have to
develop a bit more mobility to be able to defend some of the quicker power
forwards.
Though Jahidi has all the defensive skills to succeed in the NBA, he has not
developed any of the offensive skills required. His offense depends on dunks
and layups. He has not been able to develop any sort of jump shot in college.
His free throw shooting hovers between 50-60 percent. He could be an effective
reserve if he were able to develop a 12 foot jump shot.
If Jahidi has one defensive liability, it is his tendency to rack up fouls. In
the NBA, this may not be as much of a disadvantage because his job will be to
a) set picks, b) rebound, c) block shots, d) foul the opposing team's power
forward. An effective diet and conditioning program may curb this habit, as
most of Jahidi's fouls seem to stem from fatigue and carelessness.
After spending the better part of his Senior year out with an ankle injury,
Jahidi surprised many people at the Desert Classic with a variety of post
moves. Jahidi may be worth serious consideration in the second round for any
team wishing to bulk up in the middle.
