Radojevic was originally signed to go to
Ohio State for the 1999-2000 season, but due to him having played professionally briefly
back in Yugoslavia before coming over to the States (19 measly minutes), the NCAA declared
him ineligible to play college ball, so he entered the NBA Draft. He actually really
wanted to play for OSU, as 2 fellow countrymen are also on the team, and he would have
made OSU a Final Four favorite. So instead, he enters the draft. Radojevic has been under
the eyes of NBA scouts ever since his freshman year at Barton County CC (which he had to
enroll at in order to come to the States; his English was not good enough for him to get
into a regular 4-year school). While his stats have not been particularly gaudy his 2
years at Barton County CC, a lot of it has to do with the fact the teams he's played on
have been stocked with Division I talent (Gordon Scott, Alton Mason, Lamont Roland,
Michael Jackson, etc.). Still, he put up some good numbers on a team that reached the JUCO
tournament final game his sophomore year. Now of course, there aren't a whole lot of
players his height on the junior college level, but the Jayhawk JUCO conference is yearly
one of the toughest JC conferences in the nation, and is filled with wide-body centers who
will bang with the best of them. Radojevic might have been taller, but he would have been
forced to get physical. Even so, he could stand to put on a little weight, but remains
very agile and coordinated for his height. Offensively, he is still very raw, but
continues to improve - almost game to game. Defensively, of course, he is a shot-blocking
presence. There is a lot of mystery surrounding Radojevic, mostly because since he only
played at the JC level, many people have not had the opportunity to see him play. However,
you can't teach height, and if all that is said about his agility and learning curve are
true, this kid could really be a project worth gambling on. There's even been talk that
he's a lottery pick, and one newspaper writer even said he should be the #1 overall pick
(!!!). Just from what I have heard and read, he seems to remind me of current Cavs center
Zydrunas Ilgauskas, except without the foot problems. If he turns out to be anything close
to what Ilgauskas is, it would certainly be a great catch for the team that drafts him. |
