Scouting reports

Scout: David Edelman [dedelman@acpub.duke.edu]

He's built like an NBA small forward and has all the offensive skills for that position; shooting, beating his man off the dribble, rebounding. I wasn't crazy about his defense in the NCAA tournament. I don't know if he'll ever get inside in the NBA, but at worst he should be a stone-cold shooter with some additional offensive skills. Bears some resemblance to Dennis Scott, but is quicker, handles the ball better, and isn't that bad defensively. Somewhere between Scott and Keith Van Horn.

Scout: Jeffrey Burgoyne [burgoyne@ultimate-sports.com]

Quite possibly the first senior to go in the draft, Szczerbiak was an incredible offensive force in the NCAA last year. His ability to take over a game and single handedly carry his team will be talked about for a while after he leaves Miami (Ohio). While projected as a SF, his weight (listed at 240) will allow him some leeway in the NBA to play inside.

Szczerbiak scores, and scores efficiently. For some reason his outside game suffered last year as he had his worst three point percentage in a season by far. Regardless, he scores because he can shoot, drive and mix it up underneath. An 80%+ FT shooter makes him all that much tougher to defend. His passing game has been improving over the years and certainly should be adequate at the NBA level. His defense doesn't make a scout happy, but then again many SF's in the NBA don't either.

Szczerbiak at worst should turn out to be a poor teams Glenn Robinson. Szczerbiak does not have Robinson's range, nor likely the ability to get enough shots off to be the scorer Robinson is, but if he works at his defense and ball handling, he should be in for a long NBA career.

The guy is an animal on the floor. He beats you with is shot whether iit is from downtown or a tiny pull up jumper. The guy can flat out score.

People say it was only because he played in a lesser conference. I think he has erased that with his 46 point performance in the NCAA tourney. People also forget that this guy was the leading scorer on the USA team that brought home the gold in summer of 98.

He should be drafted between 4 and 8. He will be a good fit for anyone ( espiecally Washington ) and will be an impact player immediately.
