Scouting reports

Scout: Phil Nation

Jason Terry is quite possibly the best defensive guard in this draft. A spot starter his first three years and one of the nation's best reserves his junior year, he stepped up and became a star when he became a full-time starter this past season. He helped lead a young Arizona team into the NCAA Tournament and another solid season in the Pacific Ten.

Terry's biggest asset is his defense. He is Arizona's all-time leader in steals, and can be a nightmare for opposing point guards. His offense was where his value was last season. He led the Pacific Ten in scoring, assists, and steals, the first player to do so since Gary Payton.

Terry is not a jet, but he's an intelligent player who knows how to run a team offensively. He has good shot selection, knows how to involve his teammates, and takes care of the basketball. He also can hit clutch shots.

Terry should be taken late in the lottery or just outside the lottery. His immediate playing time will largely be determined by his teammates and if he continues to play like he did during his senior year.

This guy does not get anywhere near as much credit as he deserves. At Arizona last year he carried the Wildcats to the tournament. While they exited early he proved that he is a force on the hardwood. He has a pretty consistent jump shot and can create his own shot by driving to the net or just pulling up. He has the ability to run the halfcourt offense as well as anybody in college basketball ( with the exception of Mateen Cleaves )and is comfortable in doing so. He is an outstanding defender and led the Pac-10 in scoring, steals and assists.

Most people have him in the mid first round and possibly late lottery. He is a the best all around point guard in the draft. I would have drafted Baron Davis ahead of him if not for the injuries he has sustained. Steve Francis cannnot run the halfcourt offense and is just a slower Allen Iverson. If the GM is looking for a true point guard (most likely clippers, warriors) then I would grab Terry.
