Hi, and welcome to the Chapel Hill local music discussion group.

The purpose of this list is to allow for the promotion of, discussion about, and networking among Chapel Hill music and musicians. Anything from alubm release announcements and reviews to speculation about Kathy Poindexter's table manners is welcome on this list. It is unmoderated and completely public--anyone with an interest in Chapel Hill should get involved. Hopefully, it will not be an extremely high-traffic list, even though I would love to see some heated debates.

The annoying name is intentional--this list is not only about all of the bands traditionally relegated to the Chapel Hill "scene", but also an attempt to broaden the focus on Chapel Hill music, to include other types of local music that are extremely important (for example, why is Mike Cross never in the buzz, but people can't get enough of the Archers?).

I have another motive in creating an electronic list about Chapel Hill music, which is to give Chapel Hill a jump in the increasing electronic distribution of music over the internet. Projects like the Internet Underground Music Archive promise to give bands access to international distribution without the intervention of record labels... but to get involved, musicians, Dj's, and general fans need to know about the technology involved. Hopefully, CH-SCENE will be my way of helping people learn about what the internet means for small bands seeking a larger audience. More information on this will be distributed in a separate message.

Thanks for joining the Chapel Hill music mailing list. If you have any questions, feel free to send me a message personally.
