This vital and unique program trains new farmers in low-capital, environmentally sound farming practices, financial management, whole farm planning and environmental monitoring. It links participants with experienced sustainable farmers who serve as mentors. New and available only to Farm Beginnings graduates is a zero interest livestock loan program, made possible by a generous $250,000 grant from Heifer Project International.

Nineteen persons have successfully graduated from this program. The third session is underway with a full class of 27 participants from 16 farm families.

What you can do:

•Join the class, if you think you are interested in launching your own farming operation and you'd like to participate in the program,.

•Provide land, buildings or equipment, if you know of land, buildings or equipment that might be available for rent or sale to a beginning farmer.

•Donate a high quality animal or money to purchase an animal.

•Mentor a young farmer.
