Programs:
August 1997- May 1998: Student at the University of Southwestern Louisiana.
Classes taken in French and Louisiana folklore.
August 1992 - May 1995; August 1998-present: Student at the University of North Carolina
at Chapel Hill.
I have been active in many forms and functions during my time as a
student at Carolina. In the Spring of 1995 I ran for Student Body
President, but subsequently was defeated and instead opted to accept a
position in Student Government as Information Technology Co-Coordinator
along with my running mate, Michael
Williams. As InfoTech
Co-Coordinators we investigated misappropriations of fund expenditures
relating to the Education and Technology Fee by various administrative
units on campus. I was also responsible for the implementation of an
Information Technology Week during October of each year to further campus
awareness of information technology issues (free speech online, better
access to emerging technologies, et. al.).
August 1989-May 1992: Pinecrest
High School, Southern Pines, North Carolina.
From 1989-1994, worked at the Country Bookshop of Southern Pines, North
Carolina, as an order placement specialist and customer relations
assistant, learning the ins and outs of being an entrepreneur and
indulging in my love for all things written.
St Anthony Hall -- Delta Psi Xi.
I have interned at area middle and high schools during 1992-1994 as
part of the Teaching Fellows program. Responsible as well for creating
workshops (on Information Technology and Gay & Lesbian Issues for
Teachers) for fellow Fellows as part of Team Leader activities. In the
fall of 1994 I was a co-coordinator for the statewide North Carolina
Teaching Fellows Intercollegiate Conference (which had over 20
participants, the most of any student-run conference for Teaching
Fellows).
Note: I am no longer involved in the Teaching Fellows program but have
still benefited from the body of knowledge that was presented me.
I worked with the educational workshops and helped educators further
their skills with using the Internet and Internet-based applications.

Majoring in French.
Cumulative grade point average rests
solidly on 3.0. Expected graduation: Spring, 1999.
Participated in a variety of leadership
oriented activities in Student Government, took Advanced Placement classes
for college credit, assumed leadership roles in the Media and Choral
groups on campus as well. Also won several solo choral performance
awards, as well as attending North
Carolina Governor's School in
the summer of 1991 for Choral Performance (requiring both academic
excellence
and an audition in order to be considered for this area). I
matriculated from Pinecrest with honours such as the North Carolina
Academic Honors
award as well as being a National Honor Society graduate, and among
the top 20 students in a class of 295.
I pledged St. Anthony Hall in the spring of 1995, and have held several
positions within the fraternity since then: Computer Committee
co-chair; President; Safety Committee chair; Publicity Chair; Antoine's
chef for three semesters running; and self-appointed maintainer of the
online Delta Psi Xi archives (located at
http://sunsite.unc.edu/kelly/deltapsi/) as well as listowner
for two
mailing lists running off of our campus listserv machine (utilising
ListProc 8.0). As listowner for two lists I have been able to
adeptly troubleshoot and solve problems regarding mail to these lists.
North Carolina
Teaching Fellows scholar, 1992-1996.
The Teaching Fellows scholarship is a very prestigious award given to
high school students intent upon teaching in the state of North
Carolina after graduation from a four-year institution in the
University of North Carolina system. Specialised training and seminars
are offered, and summer experiences are designed to give a more
intensive and focused atmosphere (I have traveled across the eastern
part of the state, flown above Gatlinburg, TN as part of a Project WILD
experience, and interned at the New Hanover County school systems, to
name a few of my summer adventures with Teaching Fellows). I was also
given the opportunity to travel to Moscow and St Petersburg in the
winter of 1994 with the Teaching Fellows program, and was able to
observe the educational and social system firsthand.
