AFGC Travel Grants to the Intl. Grassland Congress

APPLICATIONS FOR TRAVEL GRANTS ANNOUNCED

The Forage and Grassland Foundation has provided funds to AFGC for travel
grants to attend the XVIII International Grassland Congress. These meetings
will be held in Winnipeg and Saskatoon, Canada in 1997. The primary purpose
of these travel grants is to encourage scientists and producers to enrich
their programs and to share their experience with peers from throughout the
world. Preference will be given to creative and productive scientists, and
innovative forage producers. To qualify, applicants must have been an AFGC
member for a minimum of two years. Only one member from a single farming
enterprise may apply. Scientists must present a paper(s) concerning their
research, extension or teaching program. No AFGC member is eligible to
receive more than two career grants. Preference will be given to members who
have not been previous recipients. The President of AFGC is provided a Grant
on a noncompetitive basis. The other officers, members of the Board of
Directors (except producers) and members of the Travel Grant Committee are
not eligible to apply.

Applications are due in the AFGC office no later than August 1, 1996.
Selection is based on both subjective and objective criteria. Applications
must include the following:

1. Brief resume (1-2 pages)
2. Justification for travel grant.
3. Plan to share knowledge gained with other scientists and producers on
return to the US.
4. Scientists: Statement describing tour research, teaching and (or)
extension program. Include the numbers of each type of your publications
and a listing of up to five pertinent publications.

Producers: Statement describing your farming enterprise. Evaluation
will be based on innovation and efficiency in forage production and/or
utilization.

Grant Awardees will be notified by September 1, 1996. A brief report from
each award recipient will be required and must be sent to the AFGC President
within 10 days after the end of the Congress. Questions concerning these
grants should be directed to Dana Tucker, Executive Secretary of AFGC at
1-800-944-AFGC.
