POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

POSITION:  Assistant Professor in Beef Cattle Forage Management/Utilization

LOCATION:  Department of Animal Science, University of Arkansas,
Fayetteville, Arkansas.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  This is a tenure-track, 12-month
position, composed of 50% research, 20% teaching, and 30% extension that is
available July 1, 1997.  The incumbent will conduct research on forage
management and utilization relating to livestock production systems.  This
will include research on forage production and quality, techniques of
improving grazing efficiency, testing of new and alternative forages, and
waste management.  The incumbent will work closely with scientists in animal
nutrition and physiology, agronomy, and agricultural economics, and will be
engaged in academic instruction and advising.  The incumbent is expected to
engage in service, procure extramural funds, publish in refereed journals,
participate in national activities, carry out interdisciplinary projects as
part of developing a nationally recognized research program, and engage in
extension activities at university, state and national level including
participation in the Arkansas Grazing School.  Salary is commensurate with
training and experience.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Ph.D. in agronomy, range science, animal science or a
closely related field with strong plant science background, significant
experience in forage research and knowledge of animal science and forage
quality.  Preference will be given to candidates with relevant research
experience, knowledge of grazing research techniques and demonstrated
communication and leadership skills.

STAFF AND FACILITIES:  The Department is expanding and currently consists of
17 faculty on campus.  A laboratory equipped for forage quality analyses is
available.  Field research can be conducted near Fayetteville, and at
outlying stations at Batesville and Monticello.
