Oregon Management-Intensive Grazing Workshops

To Those with MIG interest!

It is nice to have the forage network back up again....

Oregon is sponsoring two Management-Intensive Grazing Workshops in
May (May 13 & 14 in Remond, Oregon and May 15 & 16 in Eugene,
Oregon). The Redmond Workshop will be held at the Deshcutes County
Fairgrounds and the Eugene workshop will be held at the Red Lion Inn.
Starts at 10:00 a.m. and runs till 5:00 p.m. on the first day and
runs from 9:00 a.m. till 5:00 p.m. (may finish earlier).

Jim Gerrish from the University of Missouri will highlight the
workshop. Tom Griggs from the U. of Idaho will also be making
presentations. Other speakers will be John Buckhouse, Randy Dovel,
John Hart, Willie Riggs, Mylen Bohle, Jay Carr, Don Hansen, Marshall
English, Alan Mitchell, Rod Todd, and four producers - Glen
Hudspeth, Gail Foster, Randy Warnock, and Dave Peterson. We have patterned the
workshop somewhat after the Wyoming workshop held in November, 1996,
 which was very successful.

East Side Topics to be covered include:
Concepts of Managment-Intensive Grazing
Physiological Basis of Grazing Managment
Soil Fertility and Pasture Fertilization
Irrigation Management
Grass Varieities for Pasture and Hay
Matching Forage and Livestock Resources
Pasture and COARC Tour (let us know if attending)
Livestock Health Considerations with MIG
Environmentally REsponsible GRazing Managment for Riparian Areas
Economics of MIG
Layout and Design of GRazing Systems
Producer Panel
Panel Discussion with all Speaker

The workshop will be the same with two exceptions: There is an
irrigation presentation for the Redmond workshop and that will be
replaced with a lime study on Pastures and T-Sum 200 talk. The
Redmond workshop will hold a first day evening mini tour to one ranch and
experiment station to look at 24 irrigated grasses and 65 dryland
gasses and legumes.

Cost is $70 per person and $120 per couple, includes lunches, manual,
and materials.

I have placed an attachment with this. There is a registration form
for the east side workshop. If you want to attend the west side
write it in and mail to the west side workshop: Polk
County Extension, P.O Box 640, Dallas, OR 97338 and make check
payable to the "Livestock Association".

East side workshop address is Crook
County Extension, Courthouse, Prineville, OR 97754 and make check
payable to "Tri-County Livestock Association".

For the East side Workshop call Mylen Bohle at (541) 447-6228 or
email: bohlem@oes.orst.edu
For the West side workshop call Gene Pirelli at (503) 623-8395 or
email: pirellig@polk1.oes.orst.edu

Please RSVP by MAY 8!

This should be an excellent workshop. Mid May is a hard time to get
away for two days, but, what you learn, you can take home put it to
practice the very next day.
