Plants growing on red clay

Climate: tropical, humid, coastal, Philippines
Terrain: mountainous, steep slopes, about 1,000 m. high
Vegetation: Treeless, grassy
Soil: limestone, red clay
Water: spring nearby

What is the best way to utilize a sizeable supply of red clay? Do any
edible plants grow on it? Some islands are using clay to produce terra
cotta pots and floor tiles. Any suggestions?
