Save A Farm?
Hello out there...
I've been moved by an article in the Philadelphia Inquirer about the
emminent auction of a 191-acre farm in West Chester, a rather urban area as
things go. It seems very likely to go up for development, and yet is one of
the last open areas in the area. It has an apple and peach orchard and the
original farmhouse, stone, from the 1800's. The motivation for the sale
appears to be to cover insurance costs for the 100-year old resident of the
house, who broke her hip. She doesn't want to sell, but the family says
they need the money to care for her.
I realize this is a long shot, but does anyone out there have any ideas
about how this could go differently? Know anyone who wants to open a CSA or
community close to Philly, or do something that would keep this farmland
from being built over?
Open to suggestsions and Inspiration...
