The University of California Sustainable Agriculture (UC SAREP) published a 
$5, 40-page publication "Organic Soil Amendments and Fertilizers" in November 
1992.  It may not answer all the commercial inquiries you get re. composting, 
but it's very useful and is easy to read and understand (it also has good 
charts, tables and a few great photos.)  The authors are David E. Chaney, UC 
SAREP annual cropping systems analyst (dechaney@ucdavis.edu); Laurie E. 
Drinkwater, formerly a systems ecologist at the UC Davis Dept. of Vegetable 
Crops now at Rodale Research Institute; and Stuart Pettygrove, soils 
specialist in the Dept. of Land, Air and Water Resources at UC Davis. To
