New Fact Sheet Series on Leaf Mulching (fwd)

Subject: New Fact Sheet Series on Leaf Mulching

Rutgers Cooperative Extension, Rutgers-The State University of New Jersey,
has developed a fact sheet series on leaf mulching.  They include:

FS 718  On-Farm Use of Leaf Waste:  Regulations
                Describes composting and leaf mulching/sheet composting; New
                Jersey regulations for each practice.

FS 820  On-Farm Leaf Mulching:  Getting Started
                Lists 10 steps/points to assist farmers in getting started.
                Discusses contractual agreements, contingency plans,
                public education and record keeping.

FS 821  On-Farm Leaf Mulching:  Leaf Application, Incorporation and
                Economics
                Discusses the benefits of leaf mulching; leaf application and
                incorporation methods and application rates; cost of on-farm
                processing; and contracts.
        
FS 822  On-Farm Leaf Mulching:  Effects on Soils, Crop Yield, and Pests
                Outlines results of field trials conducted in New Jersey. 
Effects
                on soil physical properties, pH and nutrient management;
                weeds, soil arthropods, nematodes and disease; and corn and
                soybean yield response are discussed.

FS 823  Leaf Mulching Discussion Group on the Internet
                Provides information on subscription, posting messages and
                available resources through the Internet discussion group.

FS 824  Plant Nutrients in Municipal Leaf Waste
                Contains information on macro- and micronutrient
                concentrations of leaves as delivered to farms; and fertilizer
                management recommendations.

Each fact sheets is two pages long and provides general guidelines and
recommendations as well as specific data from the three year experiment
conducted in New Jersey.  For a single copy of any/each fact sheet, contact me
