Vacancy Announcement: DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT

The International Centre for Research in Agroforestry (ICRAF) is an
international research organization supported by the Consultative Group =
=20
on
International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). Its ultimate purpose is to
contribute to improving human welfare and environmental resilience =20
through improved agroforestry systems.

ICRAF seeks to fill a position of Director of Development who will =20
oversee ICRAF=C9s new Development Division, which focuses with accelerating=
=20
impact of agroforestry innovations and enhancing the capacity and =20
institutional strengths of national institutions. The work is carried =20
through 6 regional programs in Southern Africa, Eastern African =20
Highlands, the Sahel, Humid West Africa, Humid Tropical Latin America and =
=20
Humid Tropical Southeast Asia, comprising 20 collaborating countries. =20
The individual will supervise a multidisciplinary team of 68 =20
professional staff with an annual budget of approximately US$9 million.

As a key member of ICRAF=C9s senior management team, the Director is =20
actively involved in the overall guidance of the Centre. Duties include =
=20
implementing ICRAF=C9s strategy and medium term plan, administering an =20
efficient management system and interacting with donor agencies.

Candidates must have a PhD degree or equivalent in an applied biophysical =
=20
or social science, with a personal track record of having carried a =20
research project through actual implementation that resulted in tangible =
=20
impacts on farmer fields in the tropics. English competence is essential =
=20
while French or Spanish are highly desirable. Successful experience in =
=20
working in a multicultural environment and leading a multidisciplinary =20
team is highly desirable.

An internationally competitive salary and benefits package will be =20
provided. The contract is for continuing appointment up to 10 years, =20
subject to 1-year probation period, satisfactory performance and adequate =
=20
funding. ICRAF offers a collegial and gender-sensitive working =20
environment. The position will be based at ICRAF=C9s headquarters in =20
Nairobi, Kenya and requires frequent travel.
