This accounted for three years of literary research, compiling 400 scientific references and summarising such data into a 26,000 word paper. The completed work underwent a critical review by the British Natural History Museum (UK) and evaluation by Singapore University. To be published in the languages of English and German in 1997. Regular contributor to international fishkeeping magazines (since 1989) having 32 published articles to date. Commissioned by Genesis Film Productions (England) as a consultant with respect to the breeding of the Siamese fighting fish (Betta splendens) which featured in a four part educational documentary for UK Channel Four Television (1989). Self-funded business and field research trip visiting a variety of fishery research stations in India to collate Channidae material. Meetings with a good cross section of the scientific and business community and subsequent exportation of Indian native freshwater species for controlled breeding and sales to the United Kingdom.(1990) Employed as Assistant Fish Farm Manager on a commercial Research & Development ornamental freshwater fish farm in Florida, United States of America. Experience attained at this time in the discipline of artificial inducement and environmental control techniques in the commercial breeding of exotic freshwater fish species.(1991) Self-financed 31500 litre capacity research station based in Doncaster, South Yorkshire. This period realised the first European incidence of spawning the Mud Murrel (Channa punctata) in captivity.(1992) Position with Environ Ltd. this constituted advice to wholesale and retail ornamental outlets with point of sale educational information including labelling systems, water quality testing, computer based software and electronic fish information points.(1992). Contract based at Nautilus Aquatics, Wakefield with the design of hatchery filtration systems and the implementation of captive breeding programmes for goldfish and koi carp; for subsequent sales through the retail outlet. Development of an in-house fish disease diagnosis service involving microscopic analysis and treatment of sick fish. (1992-1993) Research, feasibility and implementation of a 1800 m3 fish farm based in Southern Spain. Successful rearing of a variety of ornamental fish species recorded in Fish Farming International (September 1993). Attendance at the World Aquaculture Congress (Spain, 1993) lecturing on the following subjects: 1. Trends in European Ornamental Fish farming 2. A new food fish (Channidae) for Europe Publication in the UK magazine 'The Business' (September 1993) of an article concerning topical business and environmental awareness issues. Presentation of conceptual proposals to the Chief Executive, The Earth Centre for freshwater based elements to be included in the visions and values of the centre. The project is a proposed educational environmental leisure park devoted to theme of sustainable development, based on a 140 hectare site at Denaby Main, South Yorkshire, United Kingdom. Contracted position of Director of Freshwater Ecology, The Earth Centre. My brief was to design and develop the concept of a unique freshwater fish farm devoted to innovative methods of production. This utilised sustainable aquaculture techniques without comprising the welfare and environmental integrity of adjoining ecosystems.(October 1993) Project management for a period of 18 months to the construction of the fish farm on the 1.4 million pounds sterling first phase of the The Earth Centre development.(1994-1995) Research and formulation of Earth Centre policies and strategies in relation to sustainable issues in freshwater ecology, conservation, aquatic production, ecological waste water treatment and integrated farming systems. (1994-1996) Networking (1993-1996) with governmental and non-governmental environmental organisations including the UK Environment Agency (to Yorkshire Regional Manager level), Yorkshire Water Plc and three regional local government authorities Fundraising coordinator for the proposed Aquatic Ecology Centre with a total of 100,000 pounds sterling raised in construction materials from regional based companies. The event was successfully completed and recorded for a community based television programme named 'Action Time' for Yorkshire Television. (1995) Initiated a business planning and development programme (1994-1996) for aquatic production (plants, fish, pond & lake design) on and off the site and recruited and trained a dedicated commercial manager for the development of these operations. Coordination of a research and development programme in January 1995, following an initial enquiry from The United Nations University (Tokyo, Japan), to conceive a process for utilising liquid and solid waste from a Microbrewery. The process constitutes integrated brewing, aquaculture, algae production and horticulture operations. This innovative project demonstrates a sustainable method of achieving ecological treatment processes effectively produces saleable items from organic waste streams and achieves a near zero waste output. Attended a planning conference (April 1995) in Beijing (China) organised by the Zero Emissions Research Initiative programme (United Nations University) as the representative expert for the European pilot plant. Coordinated between academic establishments including Hull University, Kings College London & Horticulture Research International to drive forward the concept to a working brief in a period of nine months. Visitation (April 1995) and discussions with senior representatives of The Peoples Government of Zhengding County, Hubei Province. The county has been chosen by the Peoples Congress as an experimental model to further sustainable urban development in China. Contribution of conceptual projects to the Millennium Earth Centre proposal (1995-1996) which has been recently approved by UK Millennium Commission (a government funding body administering proceeds from the UK National Lottery for landmark millennium projects). The programme (with up to 50 million pounds sterling from the UK government) will be a phased development opening from Easter 1998 until the year 2000 with a predicted peak of two million visitors for the millennium year celebrations. Visit to the Czech Republic in May 1995 as a delegate for an Earth Centre- Doncaster College- Vysoka Skole Banska (Academic Institution, Ostrava) preliminary delegation with the objective of fact finding in relation to sustainable development and environmental science information transfer. Research & development, management procedures, coordination with architects, planning, engineering and construction teams for a proposed freshwater pavilion based at The Millennium Earth Centre. Knowledge of ecological and environmental subjects to the wider general issues of bioremediation of contaminated land and the sustainable planning of ecological & economic regeneration in ex-industrial zones. Co-design of a newly created sustainable wetland ecosystem on an ex-coalfield site (1994-1996) Desk research for educational material for Millennium Earth Centre exhibits relating to issues of water and sustainable development.(1996)
