Ohio Valley Harvest Festival This Sunday
(Louisville, Kentucky) -- The OHIO VALLEY HARVEST FESTIVAL will be held on Sunday,
September 14, on The Belvedere in Louisville, Kentucky, from 12:00 noon until 6:00 p.m.
Admission is free; tickets for taste testing will be sold on-site.
More than 40 of the best chefs in the region, working closely with more than 50 of
Kentuckiana's best farmers and producers, will prepare farm-fresh dishes for taste
testing. Consumers will also be able to purchase produce from the farmers at the
Festival, the area's largest one-day farmers' market.
Regional farmers who regularly sell their produce at Louisville area FarmWorks:
Kentuckiana Fresh Markets will also be showcased.
"Our goal is to create public awareness about Ohio Valley agriculture, promote area chefs
and growers, and encourage the importance of buying and eating fresh, locally grown
produce," according to Dawn Ripley, chairperson of the Harvest Festival's steering
committee.
The Festival is one of the Mayor's Top 40 Events; Mayor Jerry Abramson is expected to
make an appearance.
Kentucky Commissioner of Agriculture Billy Ray Smith will draw the winning ticket for
"Harvest Basket," a contemporary interpretation of a traditional Amish pattern, which
will be raffled on Sunday. Master quilter Carol Cassedy, contributor of the quilt,
farms Whitestone Organic Farm with her husband Linn; they will also participate in the
Festival.
This Festival's sister event is the Central Kentucky Harvest Festival, Sunday, September
28, at the Red Mile in Lexington, Kentucky.

Public Radio Partnership; Farm Aid; the City of Louisville; the Kentucky Department of
Agriculture; Mothers and Others for a Livable Planet; the University of Kentucky
Cooperative Extension Service; and Kentucky Farm Bureau.
