Re: Help! Model Ordinances, Direct Marketing Farmer Surv

I cannot tell you how gratifying this is! One of the primary roles of
the WASTENOT list forum and the newly formed International Composting
Association is to discover synergies..between people, markets,
applications, associations and all other value adds wherein me might
raise the bar of professional, safe, responsible composting while also
assisting in educating the general public, elected officials, the
agricultural sector, city planners, horticulturists and ALL on the value
of properly made and applied compost. Applications that span a broad
range from insect control, to disease suppression, to remineralization,
tilth development, water retention, aeration, humus development and many
others still being developed. What is particularly wondeful is this
these gains can be made while reducing the pollution of the air, water,
and land as well as a horrible waste of millions of tons of valuable
organics every day in all parts of the world. This will require the
support, education, understanding, and urging of all..from the back yard
composter to the processors of thousands of tons per day. This will be
the topic of our first ICA meeting in Lake Lure NC on October 23 &24.
Bottom line...how do we convert organics that would otherwise be
landfilled into a smouldering pathogen/carcinogen breeding anaerobic
monutainous eyesore or burned? All ideas are appreciated! Making high
quality, safe compost to rigid standards is part one..part two is
achieved when the organics are returned to the soil through a proper
program of independent standards, application certification,
definitions, and GETTING THE PRODUCT TO THE USERS... Again thanks to all
who can hear us!
