SUBJECT: Position Available

NC State University is the lead institution, along with North Carolina A&T
State University and the NCAT/ATTRA program, for the Southern Region
Sustainable Agriculture Professional Development Program. This partnership is
responsible for coordinating and supporting the professional development
program in the Southern Region.

An Extension associate position is available to support this effort at NC State
University. The successful candidate will report to the project director and
will be responsible for logistics support for the program, including proposal
and report preparation, meeting and workshop planning, developing marketing
strategies, and maintaining contacts with state coordinators, the regional
Administrative Council, the southern SAWG leadership, and others who have an
interest in sustainable agriculture programs.

The candidate will assume significant flexibility to develop the program,
methods of facilitating the program and other roles to ensure success of the
professional development program.

SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE RESEARCH AND EDUCATION PROGRAM

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

TITLE: Extension Associate

QUALIFICATIONS:

A master's degree is required; PhD is preferred. Qualified fields of study
include a broad array of agriculture disciplines, preferably with some
programmatic emphasis in sustainable agriculture, sustainable systems or
related field. In addition, the successful candidate will have strong
organization, facilitation, and written and oral communication skills. The
position requires interaction and team building with diverse interests
associated with sustainable agriculture issues; therefore, the candidate must
have the ability to work effectively in diverse and sometimes controversial
settings. The position requires interaction with other land grant universities
throughout the USA, but particularly in the southern region, including Puerto
Rico and Virgin Islands. Significant travel is involved in the position.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide day-to-day planning and coordination of the Sustainable Agriculture
Professional Development Program prime contract, in collaboration with
representatives from North Carolina A&T State University and the National
Center for Appropriate Technology-Appropriate Technology Transfer for Rural
Areas (Arkansas). Specific tasks will include planning for meetings and
workshops, developing and distributing requests for training project proposals
and accompanying review processes; representing the project director in various
in-state and regional meetings; documenting business occurring in leadership
committee meetings; producing proceedings of regional workshops and other
events; serve as a working link to state sustainable ag coordinators,
supporting their efforts at the state level in implementing the program
locally.

The successful candidate will be given significant flexibility to develop the
program, methods of facilitating the program, and other roles to make the
program successful in the Southern Region.

EMPLOYMENT STATUS AND SALARY:

The position is 100% Extension. It is a 12 month non-tenure track position in
the Agricultural and Natural Resources Program with the Cooperative Extension
Service. Salary will be commensurate with professional qualifications and
experience.

BENEFITS INCLUDE:

The employer provides employee health insurance, workers' compensation,
vacation and sick leave, parental leave and eleven paid holidays per year. The
employee may enroll in the Teachers' and State Employees Retirement
System(TSERS). The University shares in the contributions. (A current federal
appointee may continue the federal appointment if approved by the Director of
