NGO Consultation Prior to the Committee on World Food Security

An FAO/NGO Consultation on the World Food Summit is scheduled to take place
at the FAO Headquarters in Rome from September 19-21, 1996, immediately
prior to the meeting of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS),
September 23-27, 1996. The purpose of the Consultation is to allow NGOs
from around the world to review the recommendations and declarations
adopted at the regional NGO Consultations on the Summit. There will be a
discussion of the draft Policy Statement and Plan of Action once more
before it is presented to Heads of State and governments at the Summit in
November.

The UK Conference for the World Food Summit,
Menu for the Millennium - Towards World Food Security

On October 11, 1996, the UK conference for the World Food Summit will be
held at the London Voluntary Sector Resource Center. Nine different sectors
of society will be represented: consumers, farmers, government, the food
industry, environmentalists, development NGOs, the media, academics and
diplomats. Divided into five main courses, the Menu for the Millennium
conference will sample the different policy dishes that are being served up
to strengthen the world's food security and meet the needs of the 800
million chronically undernourished people in the world. Each of these
courses will use a different method to highlight the challenges, stimulate
debate and identify strategies and policies for the future.
