The University of Missouri Forage Systems Research Center and
NCAT-ATTRA (Appropriate Technology Transfer for Rural Areas) are
collaborating to offer a workshop October 22-24, 1996, on
sustainable beef management. This workshop is designed to be a
follow-up to the grazing management workshops held at FSRC since
1990. When Jim Gerrish and I started the grazing workshops, we
never dreamed they would be quite as successful as they have been.
In order to keep the interest in good grazing management going, we
want to take a different slant by starting with the animal
component. Therefore, information from the sustainable agriculture
program through ATTRA and the research program in beef cattle and
forage systems at FSRC will be incorporated into the workshop
sessions. The intent is to get producers acquainted with whole

farm planning and plan livestock programs to minimize the use of
harvested forages and grain while increasing the dependence on
properly managed pastures. Sessions on direct marketing options
and complementary animal health programs are also planned. The
workshop will be held at the Forage Systems Research Center located
at Linneus, MO. Instructors are FSRC personnel and ATTRA technical
specialists. The cost is $150 and $250 per couple. Notebook of
materials and 5 meals furnished. Registration due October 7. For
more information or registration form, contact FSRC (816) 895-5121
or ATTRA (800) 346-9140 or ronm@ncatfyv.uark.edu.
