The Land Stewardship Project is a Minnesota-based, grassroots membership
organization founded in 1982. LSP works with farmers and rural citizens to
foster an ethic of stewardship toward the land and water, and to promote the
development of a more economical, environmentally sound and socially just
agriculture. In southeast Minnesota, primary areas of work are: Developing
alternative markets for sustainably raised products; challenging the expansion
of factory farms; promoting profitable and ecologically sound farming practices;
helping young farmers get started farming; urging banks to offer affordable farm
credit; and broadening the membership base of the organization.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Staff LSP committees of members working on alterantive
marketing and access to credit. Provide organizing assitance to rural
neighborhood groups working to stop factory farms at the local level. Work to
expand membership involvement in the organization. Organize public meetings.
Assist with membership recruitment, fundraising and grant writing.
QUALIFICATIONS: Good rapport with farm and rural people. Commitment to land
stewardship ethics, the family farm and rural community vitality. Understanding
of community organizing and experience staffing boards or committees. Proven
ability to get members involved in organizational work, turn people out to
meetings and work with diverse groups of people. Successfuly fundraising
experience. Solid verbal and written communication skills and computer
competency. Should be outgoing, have a good sense of humor, and be skilled at
working in a team setting.
SALARY & BENEFITS: Full-time position. $20,000-$27,000 depending on background
and experience. Full health and dental benefits.
