Tom,

Please consider taking the small victories where you can. (Note: I'm NOT
suggesting taking a victory and stopping the march!)
No, language is not the equivalent of action but don't discount the power it
does have. Beside giving us permisson to comment on the Emperor's new
clothes, it has the power to create a different picture in the mind. The
first acknowledgement that a BALANCE needs to be struck between maximum
production, the ecosystem, rural towns and the people populating them is, in
fact, heartening.

One has only to look at the language used to describe women and people of
color as recently as the '60's to see how language changes can work. (No, I'm
not suggested this was the only driver of change) But, think about it. When
you change the words you use to describe something, the picture in your mind
called by those words shifts. Try family farm - factory farm.

I happen to live in Rich Rominger's home region. He believes in balance and
sustainability and, while I don't know him personally, has seemed to
demonstrate that over the years around here.

Let's take the ball and run with it. Personally, I find naked Emperor's
offensive and am vocal about it.

Carpe Diem,
Marcie
