Re: Farming For The Future Leadership Workshop March 12-13, 1997

Mark your calendars now for the March 12-13 Farming For The Future
Leadership Workshop, to be held at the Watson Homestead in Painted Post,
New York (just off Route 17, slightly west of Elmira). Following up on last
year's Leadership Workshop in Cazenovia, NY, this will be an intensive
two-days of interactive sessions with teams from communities around New
York State and the Northeast. You will have opportunities to learn from
other communities who have been using a variety of strategies to strengthen
local agriculture, including:

* innovative market development

* food processing business incubators

* public education campaigns

* farmland protection planning

* agritourism development

* grower cooperatives

* farm-to-city connections

* ag entrepreneurship training

and many other approaches.

As in 1996, we will be encouraging local teams of partners from diverse
agencies, organizations and the private sector (eg farmers) to attend and
work together over the two-day period, gathering ideas and information, and
applying them to your own local situation. It's not too soon to begin
recruiting your team partners and making plans to attend this Leadership
Workshop.

Attendance will be limited to 100 participants to facilitate discussion and
effective group process. Complete registration materials will be included
in the winter 1996 Farming Alternatives Newsletter. If you do not receive
our newsletter, or if you would like us to send a copy to a prospective
local partner, contact Joan Padula at jmp32@cornell.edu, or 607-255-9832.
