Quite frankly, genetic engineering scares me to death. This is one of those
areas where I believe our technical ability exceeds our ethical maturity --
in other words, just because you can, doesn't mean you should.
Thanks to major conglomerates like ADM and ConAgra, corn and soy-based
derivatives and fillers are ubiquitous. I hate the thought of giving up all
processed products altogether, especially soy sauce and Snapple, but I fear I
will soon have no choice. As a farmer who grows veggies and fruit
organically, I can and do control more of my diet than most folks can but I
still live in the world. I'm feeling pretty helpless behind all this.
What happens to honey, royal jelly and pollen products produced by bees
foraging on genetically engineered plants?
Rbgh was a flop in large measure due to independent processors refusing to
accept milk from treated cows. They did this in response to consumer's
concerns. So many soy and corn products are adjuncts to the main ingredient
in anything that Monsanto is flying below consumer radar on this.
What can we do? Obviously, the USDA and FDA aren't listening.
