"De-Mystifying Biodynamics" seminar to be held prior to 1996 ACRES U.S.A.
Conference in St. Louis

"De-Mystifying Biodynamics", an all-day seminar on the biodynamic(r) method of
agriculture, is scheduled for Wednesday, December 4, 1996, preceding the 1996
ACRES U.S.A. conference in St. Louis, MO. The seminar and conference will take
place at the Stouffer Renaissance Airport Hotel in St. Louis.
The attendance fee is $50.

The Biodynamic(r) method of agriculture derives from a series of lectures
given in 1924 by Austrian philosopher, Rudolf Steiner. It is the oldest
systematic method of organic agriculture and is practiced throughout the world.
Unique to biodynamics(r) is the use of several herbal compost compounds and
field sprays, applied in homeopathic quantities, which improve soil humus
development
and balance plant growth and maturation. By combining these preparations with
ecologically sound farming principles such as, diversified crop rotations,
integrated livestock management, proper manure management, and resource
conservation practices, biodynamic(r) farms become environmentally and
economically sustainable. The seminar will explain the basic principles and
their application, and demonstrate hands-on techniques.

The seminar will be led by Alan York, Steve Moore, and Hugh Courtney, who have
over 50 years combined experience with this method of agriculture. Alan is a
former president of the Bio-Dynamic Farming and Gardening Association (BDFGA),
a certified apple and pear grower in northern California, and a consultant to
premium wine grape growers. Steve is a current president of the BDFGA and the
operator of a certified 60-acre diversified avocado and lemon farm in southern
California, which supplies a large (almost 300 member) community-supported
agriculture (CSA) project. Hugh is executive director of the Josephine Porter
Institute for Applied Biodynamics in southern Virginia and a large-scale
producer of the biodynamic(r) compost and spray preparations.
