Hi Jaime,

Your post reminded me of a recent item in the Oct 18, 1996 issue of Science.
In the section titled "ScienceScope," there is a short piece under the
headline, "Gulf's 'Dead Zone' Worries Agencies." The article describes a
large "area of oxygen depleated, nearly lifelss bottom waters in the Gulf of
Mexico." The area is attributeable to agricultural chemicals used in the
Mississippi Basin. A coastal ecologist is cited as an expert: Don Boesch of
the University of Maryland. The dead zone has been the subject of recent
studies sponsored by NOAA.

Good luck!
