As a farmer, and not an academic, I beg to
disagree. Most of the problems of agriculture
are political in one sense or another.
I take the opposite view with respect to
SANET. I had the same misgivings when I first
subscribed, but I came to realise that it
would be very difficult to exchange practical
information in a forum with such diverse
subscribers, living in such diverse climates,
and practicing such diverse types of agriculture.
Personally, I'm glad that SANET isn't
clogged with details about tropical
agriculture, ridge till farming, bio-dynamics,
cotton farming, etc., none of which is very
useful to me as I eke out a living as a grain
farmer on the edge of the arctic(well, it *feels* like the actic).
Each of the various aspects of sustainable agriculture, deserves a special forum, in my opinion. What SANET provides
is a place where I can get general information, and learn the principles, politics and philosophy of sustainable agriculture.
I think we shouldn't expect any more of it.
