I've not seen the rest of this thread, but we should remember that food
stamps not only help the recipients get thru rough patches in their
economic lives but also provide income to retail food purveyers who
would not be able to sell to clients without money and to producers who
would have a narrower end-consumer base.
The biggest lobbyist for food stamps is actually the grocers' lobby.
