Re: transition to organic in Iowa

M.G. : why corn and soybeans? In Ontario, where both of these crops
are widely grown, they are relatively uncommon on organic farms
because they are arguably the most difficult field crops to grow
organically. These two crops absorb over 80% of all the biocides
applied to field crops in Ontario, reflecting primarily weed control
problems associated with the growth habit, morphology, and
competitiveness of these two crops.

So, I'd encourage you to consider the rationale for including these
two crops as against other crops, particularly if you are in a
transition type situation. Ann
