This position is located in DANR: Sustainable Agriculture Research and
Education Program and is in a unit with an exclusive
bargaining representative. 
Responsibilities: Provide program support to ensure the success of
SAREP-funded projects in the Biologically Integrated
Farming Systems (BIFS) grants program through the following means: provide
natural and social science technical support to
the management teams; oversee the reporting process; assist in communicating
recommendations of SAREP director and
BIFS advisory board to management teams; assist director in documenting and
evaluating the BIFS program; provide
program information and technical support to BIFS proposal applicants;
assist the director in development of BIFS Request
for Proposals and in communicating the status of funded projects to the
advisory board; develop and extend practical
information on sustainable farming systems and methods through the following
means: collaborate with university and
non-university individuals and groups in the research, extension and farming
community to evaluate and extend existing
information in publications, presentations, demonstrations and other
methods; identify information gaps and develop critical
information on ecological farming systems through applied research and
demonstration; encourage increased attention to
critical areas of sustainable farming systems research and education
priorities to advisory committees; assist director in
arranging reviews of proposals to SAREP's competitive grants programs;
assist in overseeing progress of funded projects. 
Requirements: Field experience in applied research and extension of
sustainable farming systems (including both soil
management and pest management); knowledge of and some experience in
participatory methods of research and extension;
some knowledge of human and community aspects of sustainable agriculture and
their relation to farming system issues;
excellent communication skills, including writing, editing, public speaking,
and meeting facilitation; excellent interpersonal skills,
including interviewing and ability to communicate with people and groups of
diverse backgrounds; demonstrated ability and
willingness to work in a team approach; demonstrated ability to locate,
summarize and analyze information on sustainable
farming methods and systems from both scientific literature and
non-traditional sources such as informal literature and farmers'
experiences. Conditions of Employment: Occasional overtime required; willing
to travel; a valid Driver's License is
required; work in non-smoking area.
