Farm Apprenticeship Job Description

Lightstone Foundation Farm Center is pleased to offer a paid apprenticeship
for a highly motivated, energetic individual who wishes to learn more about
the hands-on management of an organically certified diversified farm.
Ideally, the apprentice will have some prior training and experience in
diversified sustainable farming.

The apprentice will work directly with a wide variety of sustainable
agriculture initiatives and ongoing farm maintenance.  Current farm
projects include, but are not limited to:
        * Market gardening
        * Community Supported Agriculture
        * Free-range poultry
        * Woods-cultivated ginseng and goldenseal
        * Establishment of a black walnut grove for nut and wood production

In addition, the apprentice will help prepare for, and participate in,
workshops held during Lightstone's Future Stewards Program.  An important
component of this summer youth program for high school students is the
on-farm workshops run by experts in the fields of sustainable agriculture,
wildlife management, water quality and other areas relevant to the
management of whole farm systems.

Applicants for the position should submit a letter of interest and resume
with personal and job references.

The compensation includes a stipend of $125 per week, for approximately 20
weeks, plus rustic housing at the farm center.

This position is available immediately.

Lightstone Foundation was founded in 1986 as an educational 501(c)3
organization,  Lightstone owns and manages 563 acres of organically farmed
pastures, cropland and forest in Pendleton County, West Virginia, at the
headwaters of the Potomac River.  Lightstone's mission is to serve as a
regional education and demonstration center for practicing and supporting
sustainable family farming, natural resource management, and rural
community development.
